Colossians 3:15 – "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
Motherhood is a calling unlike any other. It is beautiful and exhausting, full of joy and tears, triumphs and trials. And while being a mom is never easy, being an adoptive mom often brings its own unique set of challenges. We navigate behaviors and wounds that we didn’t cause but are called to help heal. We face emotional battles, appointments, therapies, and sleepless nights, not to mention the constant prayer that God will fill in the gaps where we fall short.
In the thick of it all, it’s easy to let gratitude slip away. When the meltdowns come, when the defiance feels endless, or when the heartache is heavier than we can carry, our natural desire is for the situation to change, to become easier. We long for relief, for a breath of peace, for a smooth day.
But God’s Word reminds us to give thanks in everything, not just in the good days when everyone is getting along, but also in the hard moments that stretch our patience and faith. Gratitude changes the way we see our circumstances. It shifts our focus from what is hard to who God is, faithful, present, and able to give us the strength we need.
When we choose to thank Him in the middle of our struggles, we aren’t pretending the pain isn’t there. We’re declaring that He is bigger than the pain. We’re inviting His presence into our chaos and allowing Him to work through us. As we do, our parenting, even in its messiest moments, becomes an act of worship.
Friend, you may feel weary today. You may be questioning if you are really the right mom for this calling. Let me assure you, God knew exactly what He was doing when He placed this child in your care. He has equipped you for such a time as this, and He is walking this journey right alongside you.
So, let’s pause and whisper, “Thank You, Jesus” for the child who stretches our heart wider than we thought possible. For the hard moments that press us closer to His side. For the daily grace that meets us in our weakness.
And whatever we do, whether it’s making another meal, scheduling another appointment, comforting another tearful child, or praying for wisdom yet again, let’s do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Because gratitude doesn’t just change our attitude, it glorifies the One who called us to this blessed work of motherhood.
Thank You, Jesus!
